How to sleep on your side with scoliosis. Sleeping on your stomach is the worst scoliosis sleeping position because it causes the thoracic spine to become flatter. Sleeping with scoliosis can be a challenge. If one dimension gets worse the others follow. Choosing the right mattress plays a very important role in getting a good nights sleep for an individual with scoliosis.

Other patients myself included couldnt really say the same. The advantage of side sleeping for patients with scoliosis is that you can use gravity to help align your spine and allow the curve to sink into its proper position. Sleeping on your belly also requires you turn your head to the side. Sleeping with scoliosis can be hard but there are things you can do to make yourself more comfortable and prevent your scoliosis from getting worse.

In some cases side sleeping has enabled scoliosis patients to actually sleep well for a longer period of time. Scoliosis is three dimensional. If youre not used to sleeping on your back try making a barricade of pillows around you. For example if the biggest curve is on the right side of your body then sleep on your left side and vice versa.

Try to sleep on your back instead of your stomach or side since it wont put as much strain on your back. With scoliosis it is extremely important that you sleep on a mattress that supports the back.
